• Q1 - Is Harris an acceptable name according to Islam? 

  A - Harith (pronounced Haarith in Arabic) is someone who cultivates or farms in the Arabic language. It is permissible to choose this name for a baby boy. In general it is not a bad name however according to the hadith of our 6th Imam is to name their children the best of names. Therefore it is better to have names that are attributed to the Prophets and Ahlul Bayt. In addition there were two very negative personalities with the name of Harith in history and that is why it is discouraged to use this name.
