• Q1 - My son Jawad is only 10 years old and is growing hair underneath his armpits. Does this mean he is considered to be baligh so that prayer and fasting becomes wajib? Or does this start at the age of 12 years old? 

  A - There are 4 signs that show that boy has become baligh. If anyone of these occur then he is baligh: 1. He becomes 15 according to the lunar calendar. 2. Coarse and thick hair grows under his stomach over his private part. 3. He grows thick and coarse hair over his lip. 4. Wet dreams. Change of voice and hair under the arms are not signs of bulugh. Some mujtahedeen (jurists)have different opinions, so please refer to them.
